Research Projects
Our research is focused on public stigma (the judgments of others), self-stigma (the shame we turn inward), and structural stigma (systemic inequities), exploring how these forces affect help-seeking, recovery, and well-being for people with mental illnesses. Much of our research uses a community-based participatory approach. We collaborate directly with people who have lived experience of mental illnesses to unpack the structural, cultural, and interpersonal roots of stigma — and to design evidence-based ways to fight it.
A secondary line of research is focused on the education and training of psychologists. This research includes topics such as self-care and wellness in graduate training, diversity and equity in education, and the teaching of ethics.
